The band was founded by members of His Hero Is Gone, the crust punk band, with the goal of starting a more bare bones, old school hardcore band. During their time together, they released three EPs, two splits, and two albums, with all their records being released through Portland's Partners In Crime and San Francisco's Prank. Deathreat split up in 2003 but reunited for a short time in
